These bottles were inspired by the traditional Italian chianti fiasco bottles with their woven straw bottom half. In the spirit of sharing a drink with a table of people, these bottles are called Mezzo Vuoto which in Italian means “half empty”. The bold color pairings work well on their own and in a group.

Artist Andrew Iannazzi joins two pieces of colored glass together while the glass is still hot enough to fuse together. The process demands great focus and precision because the adjoining edges of the two pieces of glass must be the exact same diameter. This technique, known an encalmo, essentially refers to joining two pieces of glass together to create one form. The term, sometimes spelled incalmo was first used by the Venini factory on the island of Murano in Venice to describe the process that was first documented in the islamic world during the middle ages.
